Valedictory Address
Valedictory Address
Our beloved chairman of the board and President Mr. Francisco P.V. Cayco; Vice presidents of Arellano University; administrators and faculty; parents; fellow graduates; ladies and gentlemen, good evening to all of you.
When I left grade school, I thought my life would be miserable. I thought I wouldn’t find my happiness anymore. I was afraid of the coming high school years. I thought it would be very hard, and that I would not survive. But I was wrong. High school is not all hard works and pain. It is fun, momentous, and full of joy.
They say high school is the most memorable academic stage an individual will ever experience. Everything starts in high school: from meeting and socializing with different people, to finally finding one’s true self. We discovered what our potentials are, and we had our chance to prove our worth. High school brought out the best and the worst in us. There were times that we celebrate and rejoice. There were times that we nearly gave up.
When we felt like life is hard and unfair, because of school works and pressure, there were people who had lifted us up from our own pile of despair and hopelessness. Yes, we call them friends.
The best thing about high school is the friendship that we formed. If not for my friends, I would not be standing with pride in front of you. They were the ones who had encourage me to work harder. They were with me through my ups and downs, through projects and home works, through happiness and success. They made my life colorful and lively and they had filled the emptiness inside me. I could not imagine surviving high school without them. So dear fellow graduates and friends, I thank you for everything – for the laughter, support, care, understanding, boosters, and love. I will forever keep you in my heart.
Teachers also played a big role in making each one of us a big success. They were the ones empowered with a full mind, a big heart, a basket full of understanding and patience, and an undying love and support. They were the people who motivated us to leave no stone unturned and to pass our exams with flying colors. Without them, we would never discover and hone the talents that have long been hiding in our closets. Our world will not be complete without these wonderful teachers. Fellow graduates, why don’t we give our mentors a big round of applause? On behalf on my batch mates, I thank you all for sharing your thoughts and your life with us, most especially, to Mr. Valencia. I know that you are going through rough times these days, but still, you are here with us. We love you.
But if there are people whom we really should be thankful for, it would be our parents – our super dads and wonder moms. They work hard just to send us to a decent school, and have been sweating with blood and tears to make both ends meet. They have been guiding us all our lives and never did they underestimate our skills and potentials. And I know that this graduation day is an accomplishment not only for us, but for them as well. We owe a lot to them. If it wasn’t for our parents, we will never be who we are today. Our dear parents, you all deserve a big hug and a round of applause. We love and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
On a personal note, I would like to express how fortunate I am for having my family, whose love and concern have always been a pillar in my life. Their absolute trust has been the greatest gift ever given to me. Not once in my life did they doubt my judgment or tell me I wasn’t good enough to do something. To my Mama, you know that I did this for you. You are the person who inspires me the most. I will forever love you.
Yes, college is approaching fast. Well, here it is. We are one step closer to the bigger world. We will all head on to different directions, and face tougher challenges ahead. But before anything else, let us not forget our dear Alma Mater. Let us not forget that we became part of Arellano University. Let us be proud that we came from a very loving school. Remember that this school has molded us to be better individuals, has shown us what we are capable of doing, and has led us the way to success.
Unlike what I first felt before high school, I am no longer dreading for college. I am no longer afraid of what the future might bring. I understand that I am in for tougher and harder works. But because of what my high school experience had taught me, I will not be a scared cat anymore. All geared up for college, I will be the best that I can be. I am determined to succeed, and to reach the dreams within me.
Fellow graduates, always remember to put God first; to give Him the honor in everything you do. Never walk away from your dreams. If you believe in yourself and you have full trust in God, you will succeed. Do not be afraid to take risks. Do not just dream of a successful journey: begin it.
To everyone who bears witness to this momentous event in our life - our graduation - our deepest gratitude. To my fellow graduates, congratulations and good luck.
Thank You and God bless us all.
This is my original and very emotional speech. Emotional in a way that I shed tears just to make this one better and to deliver it the best way I can. But this is not exactly what I said at the actual Graduation day. I altered some, I forgot some. Hoho!

The DJ’s Playin’ Our Song
Cars, lights, beaming smiles. Girls turned to pretty ladies; boys changed their old rowdy looks to a dashing appeal. You can see the look on their faces and the glitters in their eyes that they were all excited for this night:
the Prom, the awaited night to dress up and dance.
Girls talked about makeup and accessories, while constantly checking on their very first gown. The guys, still so loud, planned on their own ways to dance with the pretty ladies on the other side. But secretly, they were very much nervous they could pee on their pants.
Tick tock. Minutes had passed. The night was about to begin.
They put on their masks, their heart pounded fast. With their trembling feet, they came center stage. They removed then their masks and had different looks on their faces. Some were surprised. Some went giddy. Some were frustrated. But it was just the start of the night. Everything could happen at Prom.
Everyone was agitated for the dance. Who their first dance will be was a mystery. And then the DJ played a song with a sweet melody. A song that made everyone more nervous.
“You can do this. Just stand up, walk toward her, breathe deeply and ask her. Be positive, dude. She won’t decline ... or maybe she would.”
“Oh no! I should fix myself now. He’s coming, he’s coming.” The lights dimmed off. The song filled the room. What was once before an empty dance floor was now filled with pairs of boys and girls. What was once a noisy hall with all the talks from the people was now humbled by the music’s rhythm coming from the DJ’s speakers and the sweet whispers of the pairs on each others’ now-red ears.
.

All good things come to an end, so they made the most of the night – danced, laughed, danced, partied and danced some more. Because after Prom, when the clock strikes twelve, their fairy god mother will eventually take back all the pretty and glittering things, and they would all return to their normal school girls and boys again.
Book Review: The Witch of Portobello

As the book begins, Athena is dead. How she ended up that way creates the intrigue sustaining the book. The child Sherine Khalil, renames herself Athena. As a child, she shows a strong religious vocation and reports seeing angels and saints, which both impresses and worries her parents.
She grows into a woman in search of answers to many questions that arise within a person. She has a contented life but her mind is not at ease. So she sets out to find answers to the classical question of “Who am I?” through many experiences. In her quest, she opens her heart to intoxicating powers and becomes a controversial spiritual leader in London.
The
Witch of Portobello knows all. But the best way of knowing the meaning of life is by learning from one’s student. A teacher can only make us aware of our capabilities but finding the right path is up to the student. There are many ways to achieve happiness by being close to the Mother.

Finally, I was able to finish this book. I had a hard time planning my time with all the school works. But since we are only having practices right now, I got to read it already. The content of the book was very deep. It talks about the empty spaces, the vertex, the Great Mother, Hagia Sofia, continuing the rituals and some of the people’s views in life. What I learned from this book is that we should not be afraid to take chances, to do the things against what we usually do and that
love simply is. Paulo Coelho is such a great novelist. Thumbs up.
I am now reading his Novel of Obsession –
The Zahir. I hope I’d be able to enjoy it, as well.
Leaving My Footprints
Just thought of sharing our Graduation song. I'll post my Valedictory address next time. :)
Footprints In The Sand
Leona Lewis
You walked with me
Footprints in the sand
And helped me understand
Where I'm going
You walked with me
When I was all alone
With so much unknown
Along the way
That's when I heard you say
I promise you
I'm always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow
And despair
And I'll carry you
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand
When I'm weary
Well I know you'll be there
Cause I can feel you
When you say
I promise you
I'm always there
When your heart is filled with sadness and despair
Oh, I'll carry you
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand

When your heart is full of sadness and despair
I'll carry you
When you need a friend
I promise you
I'm always there
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints

My emotions are effin’ mixed today. I really don’t know what to feel or try not to feel. Yay. I’m not sure if I should be happy or something. I’m really confused. I have news for you people. Read on:

Thank you in advance, friends. I don’t expect it as well. It’s really unbelievable and very much something to be in awe about. Well yes, I am happy. You won’t believe how happy I am with this news.
What bothers me now is the reaction I get from other people. Some I liked; some I disliked. Some were not that happy about it. But, as my friends say, I deserve this one. And that I should not care with what others think and say. They are not my business now. It makes me sad, but my friends are always there for me. They lift me up. I love you guys.
And that’s not all, what I hate right now is the fact that
Alex Lambert was voted off in
American Idol. Well yes, I am deeply affected. You all know that I really like that mushy banana. But I was in awe again after seeing those
petitions for Alex’s return to AI. Like, no way?! We love Alex! Read more

I Am Your Brother from Renaldo Lapuz. You had sung that under the shower, I know you did.
And so
American Idol season 9 had already started airing on our boob tube again. I got euphoric about it. I’ve been a fan since my Mom introduced me to it, and since David Archuleta started singing for the American people. I’ve already kept up with two seasons and currently enjoying the latest one with Ellen DeGeneres on it.
The auditions (aired January) were quite hilarious and weird. The standouts were that “Pants on the Ground” and the bikini guy, the counterpart of the bikini girl (from season 8). Then the usual Hollywood week, Top 70, Top 24 and Top 12 (to be introduced next week). Contestants were pretty, nice, hot, but not very great. Well, I think Adam “Glam” Lambert is still the best so far. But of course, I always have my early faves.
