Infinity on High

I spent my God-given eight hours with my Pony, Levi’s and Elmo shirt. Geez, sounds stupid.

This day was supposed to be a reunion, but ended up as a small get together. Bummer. This was all planned by Bea Salva (my grade school classmate slash closest girl friend), Aaron Buenagua (my… I can’t think of a fitting adjective!) and myself (they stopped by my place yesterday, which made me speechless and left me in a state of shock). But at the end, I spent those eight hours with just the two of them. I arrived in the meeting place by 1 pm; Aaron arrived by 1:30. So we just talked and talked and strolled and visited our own ex-Alma Mater (and had a bit of a tour and show offs), while waiting for Bea... who never arrived. We went to Bea’s place, after sensing that maybe she was doing something, and went to that very boring and bare SM Naga. We ate halo-halo at Chowking (very precise). We went to German Celeres’ place and spent our remaining time laughing at Aaron’s nonsense stuffs. I got home by 8 pm.

The 2 hours spent at German’s house was like heaven and hell for me – heaven in a way that I liked their village because of the trees and the clear sky; hell in a way that I became the center of shame for once, and Aaron kept picking on me just for the sense of having someone to pick on.

All those eight hours had proven how intra-personal I am. Aaron kept asking me what my problem was, because I was very quiet when we arrived at German’s. I later confessed that I usually have a hard time making connections with a group of people. I told him that it is easier for me to be talkative with a single person, the opposite gender with the same age as mine. I don’t know. That’s just me: weird. He understood eventually. But he kept on picking on me (what was the problem with that guy?), and I got a bit annoyed so hit him back hard. Bea was very pretty now – and always. She kept on laughing over simple cracks (and it made me laugh, as well). German was very nice and warm (when someone stops by at your house, you know what I mean.)

It wasn’t really that amazing, but it made me happy... up until now. I acted so stupid when I got back. I was dancing with that Bingguel Bingguel by U-Kiss, and literally read – not sang – the lines of Baby by Justin Bieber. I was so loud and high.

I will never forget this day. Thank you, guys.

My Hunger for Games

I’ve got nothing much to do, just spending my extra time abusing the Internet (I grew tired of practicing my troll coloring abilities with my little nieces and nephews). I’m currently listening to my new soft pink playlist (well yes, it is still there; I really have no idea where to put that one. Apologies). While I was in Twitter, I saw this link to an art work for the Hunger Games Trilogy: Mocking Jay. Okay, I clicked and went giddy. Geez.

A scene from Hunger Games where Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen had decided to stay inside a cave to hide from the other tributes. Here, Peeta was skin poisoned and had fever.

And this made me drop my jaw! Look, look!

This is just a fan made trailer. I don’t know if the book will be made into movie. But the maker, Seesen9, was so good, I could actually believe that it is a movie in making (most scenes were from Narnia). But I think the Peeta here is far from what I had imagined (I have a more handsome Peeta in my mind!), and the Katniss here is quite chubby; she is stick-thin. But it was really nice. Great!

My World 3.0
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 @ 3:59 PM | 0 comment(s)

Okay, I’d be random again. The title? If Justin Bieber has his My World 2.0, I have my own My World 3.0. My humor sucks. Geez.

First, if you always visit my blog, you’d notice the new skin. I got it from my favorite blog skin maker Nicole. I like her works ‘cause they are very plain and unique. I don’t know. I can’t really describe her works. They look peaceful, alright. I’m sorry though if I put that new playlist up there. I really don’t know where I’d put that one. I’m no good with codes, you know? I need help. Really. Any idea?

My new soft pink playlist is composed of 11 songs: Missed You (Sam Concepcion), When I Look At You (Miley Cyrus), Hey, Soul Sister (Train), Come On Get Higher (Matt Nathanson), Vanilla Twilight (Owl City), In My Head (Jason Derulo), 1234 (Plain white T’s) Never Let You Go, Overboard, Where Are You Now and That Should Be Me (all by Justin Bieber).

I’m done with Dear John already, and I don’t like how the story ended. I’d stop there. I’d talk about it on my next future posts. But if you are planning to read it, please, bring with you your handkerchief or a tissue. You’d cry, believe me. And prepare yourself for painful scenes, dammit. I’d watch the movie next time. I’d see if it gave respect to the book.

Yesterday, my Lola and I went to Santiago, Iriga City (I’m not sure if it’s still in that city) to visit some old friend of hers. I like it there. It’s quiet and nearly isolated (I told you I’m introspective). I spent my time there reading Dear John, and stopped when my butt hurt from seating on that patio-like cement. I would want to live there, if I have my own car already. Transportations are quite hard in that place.

It’s odd here, there’s always rain. In Manila, it’s a miracle if we’d get drizzles. Here, you’d have 50% chance of bumping into someone you know in the streets; in Manila, you’ll never meet the person beside you in a bus ever again. Here, you can still stroll outside in the wee hours of the morning without the feeling of paranoia; in Manila, you wouldn’t want to still be outside after 10 pm. Here, entrance examinations for good colleges are done in summer; in Manila, exams for Ateneo, La Salle, UP, and UST are being held in August to October only. Here, people are dressed like everyone else. I mean, they are all simple to be alike (though sometimes I see others with a very “unique” fashion sense – like that guy with a Goo Jun-Pyo vest I saw in the bus yesterday); in Manila, you should dress to impress (and others do it over the top). When you got lost here, you need not be worried, you can easily find your way back; in Manila, you need to contact someone to get back home.

Not that I’m biased or so, I just noticed the differences between the two places where I grew up. But these differences make me love them both even more. I’d always owe my knowledge in Manila, and I’d always go back here in my true home.

Implusive

Heyla. This is my second day in Naga. I don’t have much to do, so I wandered off the streets. And I became, for once, an impulsive buyer. I purchase a new pair of Levi’s skinny jeans and my very first pair of Pony sneakers. I was really planning to buy Converse, but the Pony’s loudness of color caught my eyes, and you know what happened next. I felt overwhelmed (cheesy, I know) because I used my own money to buy some things for myself. Well, not really my own money, actually. It was from the Rotary Club of Downtown Manila’s President’s pocket. But I worked hard for it, take note. I’m out of words... Yada, yada. I hope Mom won’t be so mad about it; she has no idea of my spending.

I’m currently reading Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. It’s my cousin’s book, and, as what she always does, she let me read it. She is aware of my passion for books, and sometimes, she does it overboard. But I like it, nonetheless. The book’s funny, romantic and normal. I don’t know much yet, though. It’s still too early to make reviews. But I’m starting to like it. I didn’t know Nicholas Sparks is so young! I was picturing him as someone like Paolo Coelho. Hoho!

Oh, have you seen the Annoying Orange series? The sense of the videos live to its name: it is very much annoying! Damn that orange to the fiery pits of Hades.

Let me leave you with a Justin Bieber song (yes, I am a Bieber fan, after I saw how good he dances – my weakness. Holy cow!) Here it is, enjoy his shoes! Ha!

Book Review: The Zahir
Sunday, April 18, 2010 @ 5:18 PM | 0 comment(s)

The Zahir means ‘the obvious’ or ‘unable to go unnoticed’ in Arabic. The story revolves around the narrator, a bestselling novelist, and his search for his missing wife, Esther. He enjoys all the privileges that money and celebrity bring. He is suspected of foul play by the authorities and the press of having a role to play in the inexplicable disappearance of his wife from their Paris home.

Thereby, the protagonist is forced to re-examine his own life and marriage as well. The narrator is unable to figure out what led to Esther’s disappearance. Was she abducted or had she abandoned their marriage? He comes across Mikhail, one of Esther’s friends. The narrator with his help realizes that to find Esther, he must find his own self. Mikhail introduces him to a tribe who has unconventional ways of living. Through the narrator’s journey from Paris to Kazakhstan, Coelho explores various meanings of love and life. ©

Honestly, I had a hard time reading this one. I had to fight with my stubbornness and laziness just to finish the book. It was a bit boring at first. The novelist, who is unnamed, narrates how he had lived his life when his wife left him. He was so egotist, but cool. I like him because he was a writer, and he was not afraid to take chances.

The story is inspiring. It talks about following dreams and what our heart desires, the lack of love, the circle of love, the energy of love and some Tengri traditions. It is quite funny, I guess. I’m actually out of words right now. I’d just leave you with a short excerpt from the book.

Love is an untamed force. When we try to control it, it destroys us. When we try to imprison it, it enslaves us. When we try to understand it, it leaves us feeling lost and confused.

I do not regret the painful times; I bear my scars as if they were medals. I know that freedom has a high price, as high as that of slavery; the only difference is that you pay with pleasure and a smile, even when that smile is dimmed by tears.

Home and Plans

The internet connection in this Cafe sucks, crap. Wait until I get back to Naga, I'd over feed myself with non-stop internet love.

Well, yes. You got that right. I'd be back in Naga, my home, by tomorrow morning (April 18 2010). My work here is almost done. Rotary Club event was done already, and college plans will be tackled when I get back here again. I really don't know what my plans are, honestly. My first plans were left behind (yeah, right). And I'm starting from scrap again. My Mom suggested that I should go to Treston College. It's nearly an International school, what with all its emblems and professors and stuffs, BUT it only offers Hotel Management, Culinary Arts, Computer Studies, and Business Management. Darn it. My second choice was Our Lady of Fatima University, where I'd take up BS Psychology, if ever. I told you, my old plans were totally forgotten now. I'd transfer to UP Diliman in my second year, and when I do that, I'd be totally happy already. :))

I am really not that excited for college. I am more excited with summer. Hoho! I'd tell you about Rotary Club and The Zahir on my next post. Alright? Got to go. Ciao!

A New Chapter Begins

You know how it is when you have all this mixed emotions inside you and you feel like you can’t breathe? That’s how Graduation Day was like for me. I didn’t want it to start but I want it to end already. I was very nervous, I was literally trembling. It made me sick.

But becoming a graduate was overwhelming. We got this funny bittersweet feeling. Like a part of us was happy that we’re going to college, but another part just didn’t want to leave all this behind.

High school wasn’t exactly the easiest journey, but all of it seemed worthwhile because we didn’t go through it alone – we have our teachers, family and friends that had stuck by our side even through the rockiest patches. We may be saying goodbye, but remember that life does not end here ... it has just began.

Our life will soon be filled with new adventures, new lessons and new people that we would meet along the way. But for now, this chapter of our life comes to close, and it ends with a happily ever after.

Book Review: Hunger Games
Sunday, April 04, 2010 @ 4:33 PM | 0 comment(s)

The Hunger Games (2008) is a young-adult science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. It was originally published in hardcover on September 14, 2008 by Scholastic. It is the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy. It introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world where a powerful government called the Capitol has risen up after several devastating disasters. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the ruthless and evil Capitol randomly selects one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts, who are then pitted against each other in a game of survival and forced to kill until only one remains. ©

I first learned about The Hunger Games through a local weekly newspaper. They had featured this book and did some survival lessons and so for teens. I’ve been eyeing this for a couple of months already, but couldn’t purchase one because of its price. It is expensive, really. But I was lucky because someone had given me a copy as a graduation gift. Thank You Zandro!

The plot was one of a kind, and the way Collins writes is superb. It was fast-paced, and you won’t get bored while reading it. I didn’t have enough sleep because of this. I started reading it last Sunday night and ended by Wednesday afternoon. It was a combination of action and romance. I love Peeta Mellark to death! I like how Collins thought of their names: Katniss Everdeen, Primrose Everdeen, Rue, Cinna, Haymitch Abernathy. Cool. But I hate that it’s open-ended. I’m aching to get my hands on the second book.

Just a simple piece of advice: don’t ever start reading Hunger Games if you don’t have the second book yet. The book itself says that you should buy Catching Fire immediately. Agitation kills. And I learned that it is now a trilogy. Mockingjay will be out by August of 2010. Wow. I love mockingjays, they’re cute and somewhat annoying, but still adorable. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy.

And oh, may the odds be ever in your favor!
